Summary

Violinist Sara Su Jones and pianist Tatyana Stepanova present a very special benefit concert in our parlor, the intimate environment for which most solo and chamber music was originally composed. It was here that the Glessners regularly welcomed leading musicians from around the world at the turn of the 20th century. WFMT morning host Dennis Moore will serve as host.

The artists will highlight Frances Glessner’s close friendship with the great American virtuoso violinist Maud Powell (1867-1920) by performing a variety of works connected to Powell, including several arranged by, or dedicated to, this extraordinarily important American musician. The selection of works will also showcase Powell’s commitment to championing the work of living composers, American composers, women composers, and Black composers. The concert will include Amy Beach’s Romance, Poldini’s Poupee valsante, Florence Price’s Elfentanz, and Sibelius’s Musette, among other pieces.

The concert will last approximately one hour and will be followed by a reception in the courtyard (weather permitting), where guests will have an opportunity to meet the artists and host.

Seating strictly limited. Face masks are required. All ticket sales are final, no refunds or exchanges.

This is a benefit concert and all proceeds will go directly to support the ongoing mission of Glessner House. We are deeply grateful to the artists for donating their talents and for creating this special concert in the spirit of those enjoyed by the Glessners’ guests over a century ago!
